• Fall refresh.

*** It’s fall. My favorite. This year, I shall defy the Missouri weather by turning the air conditioning up enough to feel comfortable in sweaters. I will look out my window and pretend it’s not 80 degrees on most days. I will spray paint the leaves forcing them to turn. I will have my fall, dammit. *** And how are all of you? It’s been awhile… I had a nice summer break of not writing. I am still not sure how much or often I will write. Or what I will write about. Likely, things that interest me at the moment… with no theme or direction or scheduled pattern.…

  • Refresh.

*** Sometimes I get lazy and instead of steering my own path, I end up lost with a tide that carries me to places I have no business being – or ever wanted to go. That is how I felt a few months ago. Pushed down a stream. The ride was fun for a hot minute, but I quickly realized that ride was not for me. I found myself trying to fit the mold of a theme that, on most days, I find annoying and exhausting. Who doesn’t love a fresh start?  I certainly do.  You know how Madonna always re-invents herself?  Well, The Velvet Hive has left the Papa Don’t Preach stage and is now entering the kinder, gentler mama…

Hannah, my step-daughter, has started a new venture with her sister, my two and 1/2 year old, that involves their own funny YouTube channel.  It’s adorable and quirky (and I’m not biased at all) – and it has been allowed with the understanding that her mom and I will be monitoring the content closely – and also the comments section. We were talking about this fun new project the other night – and Hannah mentioned that she had recently looked up an old YouTube site she briefly had which involved cute, pre-teen life-hacks and how-to videos. She told me how a former classmate of hers had left some not-so-kind comments with regard to her videos that she hadn’t seen until now.…
